Museo Civico "Casa Cavassa" (Saluzzo)
Category: Modern and contemporary art
This museum, which is divided into fifteen rooms with painted wooden ceilings and decorated walls, houses works of art that are remarkable both from a historical and from an artistic point of view. On the wooden balcony are some examples of what visitors can admire here: XVI century grisaille frescoes with images of the Labours of Hercules, by Hans Clemer; an altar-piece depicting Hans Clemer’s Madonna della Misericordia (Merciful Mary), made between the end of the XV century and the beginning of the XVI century; a late Gothic wooden choir stall from the Cappella Marchionale (Marchioness’ Chapel) of Revello; a cradle that dates back to 1560, with grotesque decorations attributed to the school of Pietro Dolce, from the Castle of Lagnasco; the XVI century portraits of Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy and of his wife Catherine of Austria, painted by Giovanni Caracca.
