Museo "Martini" di Storia dell'Enologia (Chieri)
Category: Thematic
It is set up in sixteen rooms dug out from the ancient cantinas of the 18th century villa that was the seat of the first Martini & Rossi establishment in Pessione, an area in Chieri. The museum has found its ideal spot among the bare brick walls and the perfectly preserved arches; and it presents, in thematic order, ancient ritualistic and symbolic objects, amphorae and vases dating from the second millennium B.C. to the Imperial Roman Era, large wood presses, carts to transport grapes, casks, and precious crystal and silver objects next to filters and copper stills, which were the first testaments to the new age –the industrial age – and which contributed greatly to spread enological knowledge and technology. The stars of this collection – the first of its type in Europe – are all gathered under a common denominator: wine and its long history, tied indissolubly to human history and its evolution over the centuries.
