Ecomuseo Sogno di luce (Alpignano)
Category: Eco-museums
The eco-museum, dedicated to Alessandro Cruto and with the goal of gathering and testifying to Cruto’s important scientific and human contributions, is located inside the factory where the first assembly line light bulbs with the Cruto patent were produced. The first of three museum tours is dedicated to this Italian pioneer in the use of electricity who was born in Piossasco on May 24, 1847. His dream was to discover a way to produce artificial diamonds through the study of carbon crystallization. Instead, in 1880, the first in Italy, he was able to turn on an electric carbon filament light bulb using current from a Bunsen battery. In 1886, the “factory of light” was placed in Alpignano along the banks of the Doria Riparia, the ideal place for assembly line light bulb production. Two other tours, instead, deal with the history of electricity with the help of numerous period instruments and recreate the context where Cruto’s intuition matured, where great attention was paid to experimentation and scientific progress.
