Museo Antica Miniera di Talco Brunetta (Cantoira)
Category: History and archaeology
The mine is located in the narrow and wild Vallone di Brissout, which can only be reached on foot after an almost hour-long hike starting off from Vru di Cantoira. This was a small outfit to extract talc that began in the early 1900’s and ended in 1979. The Museum, set up by the Lanzo CAI, includes the outdoor structures and a network of tunnels on two levels, about three kilometers long. The tunnels are kept in the same conditions that they were in when work was going on, in order to give visitors an opportunity to appreciate, in the best way possible, the allure that journeying into the inside of a mountain can offer. The outside areas open to visitors are: the miners’ room which has period objects and provisions, the electric engine depot, the machinery room where fuel and replacement pieces were stored, and a small maintenance shop.
