Museo Civico Navale (Carmagnola)

The tie that binds the sea to Carmagnola is the local production of hemp, which was processed in local craftsman shops to turn it into sails and rope. And so was born a solid relationship with the shipyards of the Riviera Ligure, with France, and with England and Carmagnola’s workers in the nautical sector were called on to carry out military service in the Royal Navy. In order to exhibit the objects given by the Carmagnola branch of the Association Marinai d’Italia (Italian Sailors’ Association) this naval museum was created, which organizes the collection into four sections: history of the Italian Navy, naval activities from the period of the Unification of Italy until today, the naval world, and naval model-making. Among the most interesting objects to admire are: measurement devices, depth gauges such as the one from the U.S. Navy’s Pikerel Submarine, and the periscope lent to the class “TOIT” submarines along with uniforms, nautical maps, and models of ships (all perfectly functioning).
