Moncalieri

The beginnings of the Moncalieri Castle date back to the 13th century. Enlarged during the second half of the 15th century by Jolanda di Valois and then by Carlo Emanuele I near the end of the 16th century, the castle owes its present structure to the work carried out during the 17th century by Amadeo di Castellamonte and other architects as requested by Vittorio Amadeo I and Cristina di Francia. Since 1948, it has been the seat of the “Piedmont” Battalion Allievi Carabinieri (Military Student Battalion), with the exception of the three royal apartments lent out to the Piedmont Commission for Environmental and Architectural Heritage. The apartment of Princess Maria Letizia and that of King Vittorio Emanuele II can be toured.
