The museum offers more than one thousand “artificial plastic fruits” (pears, apples, peaches, plums, cherries, apricots, and grapes) molded by Francesco Garnier Valletti (Giaveno 1808 – Torino 1889) at the end of the 1800’s as well as the historical-scientific heritage from the “Regia Stazione di Chimica Agraria”, (“Royal Station of Agrarian Chemistry”) established in 1871 and which, in 1967, became the “Sezione operative di Torino dell’Istituto Sperimentale per la Nutrizione delle Piante” (Torino Operating Section of the Experimental Institute for Plant Nutrition”). The collection, displayed in their original showcases from 1928, other than reconstructing a century of the relationship between science and agriculture, also invites visitors to reflect on the evolution of the production and consumption of fruits and vegetables, on biodiversity, and nutrition, as well as on safeguarding local and traditional products. Besides fruit, important historical-scientific tools are displayed and a historical archive, a full library, several laboratories, and interactive stations are available to the public.
