The initial core of the museum was created in 1903 with a collection of shells and minerals brought from France by the Fratelli della Sacra Famiglia and has been enriched with new acquisitions over time. The most interesting collections are those in the ornithological section which includes 747 specimens of birds, of which 137 come from Africa and South America. There are also other zoological collections that deal with insects, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals.
