Museo Archeologico Chiomonte La Maddalena (Chiomonte)

The museum, set up in the Cascina della Maddalena, consists of a center around which tours and management of the state owned archeological site rotate. The findings displayed came to light during archeological excavations carried out at the same time as the construction of state road A 32 from Frejus from 1986 to 1992. Chiomonte’s archeological museum, inaugurated in June of 2004, documents the prehistory and proto-history of the site of the Maddalena from the late Neolithic Period (4300 B.C.) to the Second Iron Age (3rd Century B.C.). The exhibit is organized in chronological order: visitors take a tour through the daily life of a mountain settlement 6,000 years old with the visual aid of handmade ceramics, stones, the remains of homes, and the tombs related to the late Neolithic necropolis, before ending on the upper floor with an exhibit of a rich female burial from the Middle Iron Age.
