Agliè

This sumptuous residency was built on the remains of an ancient fortress by Filippo d’Aglie - minister, literary figure, choreographer, and advisor of Madama Reale – beginning in 1646 and following Amedeo di Castellamonte’s design. The large structure, more a villa of delights than a fortress, became one of the main residencies of the House of Savoy in 1763.
During this period, a project to upgrade the entire complex was drawn up by the architect Birago di Borgaro, which took into account not only the reorganization of interiors, but also the external surroundings including the parish church, the square, and the strip that connects to the palace. Plundered by Napoleone’s Army, Aglie was chosen by Carlo Felice and his court as a holiday retreat. The interior, composed of about 300 rooms, contains highly prized furnishings and fittings. The dance hall and the picture gallery are incredibly beautiful, while the park with its fixtures and inner gardens – parterres - form a setting of notable artistic relevance.
The work of recuperation deals with the complete interior, including the adjustment of the various systems, the rearrangement of the hospitality areas on the first and second floors, and the opening of a new tour route on the second floor with reinforcements, decorative and architectural restorations, and a fire prevention system. The restorations in the park deal with the lighting of the horseshoe-shaped fountain, the upgrading of entrances, the restoration of the façade that looks out over the greenhouse garden, and work to recuperate the underground floor with the old kitchen pantry and creating a new tour there.
