Torino

The idea of building a car museum in Turin came from two Italian automobile pioneers: Roberto Biscaretti di Ruffia and Cesare Goria Gatti. It was 1932 when Biscaretti, a technical and advertising designer and one of the first Italians to receive a patent in 1902, organized a very successful exhibit on the automobile industry. And so was born the dream of dedicating a museum to the car in his chosen city – Turin. As for the rest, Gatti is at his side from the moment of the partnership deed with the Automobile Club Italiano which, along with the founding partners, included Fiat. After the public success of the 1938 exhibit, which placed the cars under the central bleachers of the City Stadium, the Automobile Factories and the Angelli family decided to promote the construction of a permanent museum on Corso Unita d’Italia in 1956. In 1960, almost anticipating the 1961 unity celebrations, the Automobile Museum was inaugurated and today shows 300 vehicles, twenty of which are unique in the world. The museum has a library with more than 7,000 volumes on the subject of the automobile and a Documentation Center.
