Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo Mazzetti - Bellino - (Asti)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
The seat of the Pinacoteca Civica (City Art Gallery) since 1938, this ancient residence once belonged to the Turco family. During the first half of the 18th century, it belonged to the Marquis Giovan Battista Mazzetti who had the palace restored and also enlarged to include a gallery on the second floor. Afterwards, the architect Benedetto Alfieri, called in to carry out further improvements, enriched the building with wrought iron balconies and windows on the façade that overlooks Corso Alfieri. The atrium, the large staircase, and the halls are also noteworthy. The importance and the prestige of this rich palace are evident from the various periods of time that the heir to the throne of England, James Stuart, the prince of Piemonte and future king, Charles Emanuel III, and Napoleon stayed here.
