Asti

The Pelletta, rich bankers active during the 13th and 14th centuries in Valle d’Aosta, in Savoy, and in Germany, were the owners of many palaces in the city of Asti. Casa Pelletta, which in the 15th century belonged to Girolamo Pelletta, was built in the Gothic style. Casa Pelletta is known in the city as “casa Pilato” (“Pilate house”) probably because some of the stations in the popular celebration of the Passion are nearby.
The palace, with a completely restructured interior, still has exterior traces of its origin as a fortified structure and signs of its primitive Gothic architecture. Along the perimeter, both the interior and exterior walls, several plaques are visible and the very lovely coat of arms with an effigy of the family leaves no doubt regarding the original owners of the place.
