Torino

It is one of the most important painting galleries in Italy. Established in 1832 following the request of Carlo Alberto, it preserves the Royal Palace collection with paintings from the picture gallery of Dukes and the Kings of Savoy and is located in the Academy of Science Building - a work by the architect Guarino Guarini. Besides the Savoy collection from the Prince Eugenio di Savoia collection – Soissons, of the Savoy and Carignano and from the Palazzo Durazzo in Genoa - the Gallery has works from the 15th and 16th century Piedmont Schools (Spanzotti, Gaudenzio Ferrari, Macrino d’Alba, Grammorseo, Defendente Ferrari, Lanino), from 15th and 16th century Italian masters (Angelico. Pollaiolo, Lippi, Bronzino, Bellini, Savoldo), and several paintings from the Flemish and Dutch school (Christus, Van Eyck, Rembrandt). A separate area consists of the ancient art work from the collection of the Riccardo Gualino, a patron of the arts and an intellectual from early 20th century Turin.
