There is another city beneath Turin. In 1706, when the siege and the battle of Turin against the French took place, the defense was concentrated inside a circle of wall, closing itself within the citadel, protected by a series of galleries. About 14 kilometers of tunnels - 9 of which can still be traveled through - remain of the “underground city” and can visited along the Pietro Micca Civic Museum that, besides being a military monument unique in its kind, documents, through the use of visuals, prints, and relics of that time, the events of the siege. The museum is dedicated to the patriot Pietro Micca, a miner who, to stop the enemy, was flung into the air when he set off an explosive device to stop the advancing enemy.
