Museo Civico e Gipsoteca Bistolfi (Casale Monferrato)
Category: History and archaeology
The entrance to the Museo Civico (City Museum) in Casale Monferrato, which has its seat in the former 15th century Santa Croce convent, is a magnificent cloister with frescos by Guglielmo Caccia, called Moncalvo, done at the beginning of the 17th century. The Museum, divided into various sections, includes the Gipsoteca (Gallery of Plaster Casts)
with dozens of sketches and moulds and named after the Casale artist, Leonardo Bistolfi, as well as the Pinacoteca (Picture Gallery) with works by Moncalvo, Niccolo Musso, Pietro Francesco Guala, and Eleutero Pagliano, artists who worked between the 15th and the 20th centuries. Also noteworthy is the Levi Grazioli fund with a beautiful collection of ceramics, Italian majolica, and wooden sculptures, plus a collection of paintings by Angelo Morbelli. The Museum also has an archeological section where findings from the Bronze Age discovered in the Monferrato area are exhibited.
