Buildings of historical importance
Torre Medioevale di Terzo
Category: Buildings of historical importance
To find the first citation about Terzo as a “Castellum et villae” - a fortified village – you must consult a document from 996 A.D. When the fiefdom of Terzo went to the Malaspina family at the end of the 14th century from the Marquises del Monferrato, renovation took place on the both the castle’s lower part and upper part, where a loggia was added. The pavilion vaults, the opening of the entrance doorways and rectangular windows date back to the late 17th - early 18th century. The windows can be linked to the fire of 1691, work of the German troops who, under Eugene of Savoy, took away any defensive abilities the castle had, limiting it definitively to residential use until, at the end of the 18th century, it was finally fully abandoned to ruin, with only the tower remaining as a visible testament to the castle.
