One must cross the piazza of the ancient hamlet of Mombaldone and then continue on through the more dignified part situated between the countryside and the city in order to reach the ruins of the castle. It was built between the 13th and 14th century, and was partially demolished in 1637. What is left of the building is a square- based tower.
