Buildings of historical importance
Villa Colombaro San Michele (Cuneo)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
Built around one of the city’s still standing defensive towers, the villa came about as an agricultural settlement during the 15th century and only over time became a vacation spot. In the mid 18th century, after having become the property of the counts Mocchia di San Michele, it was enlarged and embellished with a chapel that still today preserves Beato Angelo Carletti’s tunic and several keepsakes from the Shroud of Turin. Within the villa’s walls, many pages of history tied to the siege of Cuneo and to the French occupation of 1799 were written. It is said that the ghost of Count Luigi, decapitated by the French, goes through the villa looking for his missing head.
