Pinacoteca Agnelli (Torino)
Category: Modern and contemporary art
Canaletto, Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, Manet, Balla, Severini, Modigliani, Bellottto, Tiepolo, Canova, etc. There are 25 works from Giovanni and Marella Agnelli kept in Renzo Piano’s “scrigno”, a glass and steel container on the Lingotto roof and open to the public since 2002. If it’s true that a collection is always a confession, this one is no exception. Agnelli wanted to give the people of Turin “pleasure, beauty, and joy” in order to share, first of all, with his fellow citizens the path taken in forming aesthetic taste and the pleasure that a coveted, chosen, and loved work of art brings about in the person who looks at it. The picture gallery is the seat of temporary shows and of a permanent photo exhibit – from the Matte Trucco’s factory to Renzo Piano’s Scrigno – which documents the various phases in Lingotto’s transformation.
