Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo Vescovile (Tortona)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
The bishop’s palace was built during 1584 according the wishes of the bishop Cesare Gambara who, in memory of his native city, had a beautiful marble entryway built in the style of Brescia. Originally separated from the Duomo, it was then annexed thanks to a connection created between the two buildings which another bishop, Giulio Resta, then had restructured and modified in the 18th century. In the palace’s interior, there is a valuable triptych by Macrino d’Alba dated 1499 which shows the Madonna col Bambino (Madonna with Child), San Giovanni Battista, and San Battista, plus a canvas by Guglielmo Caccia, known as Moncalvo.
