The Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali (Regional Museum of Natural Sciences), established in 1978, occupies the 17th century building of the San Giovanni Battista Hospital. In 1980 it inaugurated the exhibition activity and increased its assets with important donations of naturalistic collections by Regione Piemonte and the University. It is currently divided into different sections devoted to Botany, Entomology, Mineralogy-Geology-Petrography, Palaeontology and Zoology, but work to redefine the spaces is planned for the future. It has a specialised library housing 12,000 volumes and 1250 periodical magazines. The precious collection of minerals belonging to the Duca degli Abruzzi (Duke of the Abruzzi), who collected hundreds of artefacts during his journeys to the Pole, is of great scientific interest.
