Created in 1843 with the task of popularizing the works and the artists of the moment throughout Torino. After having moved about to various seats, it found a spot inside the Parco del Valentino. The present building, designed by Enrico Bonicelli and Davide Calandra, planned an apparently “inert” structure, since embellished by later works such as the addition of a Neo-Classical style portico and Liberty decorations. The building, which saw changes in 1919 and between 1930 and 1940, displays temporary exhibits.
