Buildings of historical importance
Archivio Storico Olivetti (Ivrea)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
The Archivio Storico Olivetti (Olivetti Historical Archives), housed by Villa Casana, is an elegant residential building set in Montefiorito park, just a short walk from the centre of Ivrea. Created in 1986 by initiative of Paolo Mancinelli, the Historical Archive was organised between 1987-1994, under the management of Giovanni Maggia. Aiming to recover and conserve a huge amount of documents, the archives bear witness to the singular experience of a factory which, thanks to the entrepreneur Adriano Olivetti, experimentalist and far-sighted politician, became the first company in the world in the office products sector but, above all, was transformed into an extraordinary research and experimental laboratory, which just goes to show how industrial development can join forces with the affirmation of human rights and participative democracy, both inside and outside the factory.
