Arca Arte Vercelli
Category: Modern and contemporary art
The idea and the name “Arca”, which it has been given, make this space a curious and special place to exhibit. Compared to a protective collector of works, Arca developed as a parallelepiped placed inside the former medieval church of San Marco in Vercelli with its 374 square meter exhibition space. Located along the church’s central nave, it has a modern glass covering, thanks to which it is possible to admire the basilica’s arches from the inside. Besides this, the Arca’s external space, consisting of the lateral nave and apse, is used for events linked to its interior exhibits as well as a workshop for fresco restoration. Arca inaugurated its exhibition spaces in November 2007 by setting up a show of European and American art from the first half of the 20th century belonging to the American collector, Peggy Guggenheim along with several works from her uncle’s museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
