Novara

Built during the Galeazzo Visconti domination, around the second half of the 14th century, the castle rises up in an area where there was once 13th century fortress. Beginning in 1472, the structure was turned into a true and proper strategic fortress for the city: it was entirely rebuilt and took on the look that it still has today, not withstanding the erosion from time and wear and it’s use as a prison during recent
times. The manor is surrounded by the great park of Allea. In front of the castle, facing Piazza dei Martiri, is Palazzo Orelli, or del Mercato, with its elegant perimeter colonnade typical of 19th century Novara.
