Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo della Comunità (Orta San Giulio)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
The heart of Orta, Palazzo Motta, built in 1582, is the seat where the community of Riviera has long exercised legislative and executive power. An external staircase connects the large colonnade to the vast hall on the first floor. The walls are decorated with coats-of-arms depicting the faces of the bishops of Novara who succeeded each other in governing the region. The main façade carries a coat-of-arms with the writing “Hortus Conclusus” to underline the Riviera’s geographic location as well as its autonomy.
