Monteu da Po

The Bodincomagus settlement, inhabited by Ligurians, rose up south of the Po, between Torino and Piacenza, in an area characterized by close cultural contact with the Celtic world. A long time after the Roman victories over the indigenous peoples, during the first half of the 2nd century B.C, between 125 and 123, we have the first Roman foundations on the Monferrato plains – work of the consul M. Fluvio Flacco, who divided the land up among the Italic farmers. Next to the Ligurian community of Bodincomagus, the civitas di Industria was created in 123 B.C. and destroyed between the 5th and the 6th century. On this site, a parish church rose up during the medieval period. Digs were carried out during the 18th and 19th centuries and picked up again during the 20th century after areas which had been unearthed earlier were buried once again.
