Parco di Villa Doria (Pinerolo)
Category: Historical and botanical gardens
The Prussian, Xavier Kurten, gardener of the royal house, creator of the park at the castles of Racconigi and Pollenzo, also designed the Parco (park) del Torrione at Villa Doria in Pinerolo, the largest private park he created. Age-old oak trees and enormous cypress trees characterize the most fascinating places within this elegant and romantic park. The park includes, among other things, the “Hydrangee” (hydrangea) collection from the Anna Peyron nursery. Torrione, along with the botanical gardens at Villa Taranto, those at Villa d’Este, plus those at Trieste’s Miramare, Ninfa, and Quirinale, belong to the group of great Italian gardens.
