Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo Cisterna (Biella)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
Although with medieval origins, the Palazzo of the Princes Dal Pozzo della Cisterna has been restructured several times. The façade, with its stone entrance and balconies, was only added at the end of the 16th century, while the entrance stairs were built during a more recent time And if the cornices and fascias in terracotta which decorate the building’s west wing, as well as the pointed arches, are medieval in taste, those Roman busts that jut out from the tympanum on the second floor clearly have a Renaissance “touch”. Inside, are frescos with mythological and Roman subjects and a monumental fireplace from the 17th century. Recently, the ownership of Palazzo Cisterna went from the Commune di Biella to the Regione Piemonte which has opened up several decentralized offices here.
