Buildings of historical importance
Palazzo La Marmora (Biella)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
Although construction on the Palazzo began in the 13th century with the Ferraro family, the work dragged on until the end of the 19th century. Located in the upper part of Biella, towering over Piazzo, the Neo-Classic style structure is five buildings long with the main entrance and a balcony located in the central body. Inside, is a terraced garden that looks out over the lower part of the city. The glass covered portico on the left side of the courtyard faces the octagonal-shaped tower of the Masserano. Between these two architectural bodies, the central body is located, while the fourth is adorned with a balustrade which faces the city. The interior is made up of numerous courtyards and rooms, the decorations of which represent the history of Piazzo and of the Ferrero La Marmora family. At present, the palazzo, owned by the family, hosts cultural events and houses the Osservatorio dei Beni Culturali ed Ambientali del Biellese (Observatory of Cultural and Environmental Assets within the Biella Area).
