La Fabbrica della Ruota (Pray)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
The former wool factory, known as the “Fabbrica della Ruota” (“Wheel Factory”), was built around 1878 and is one of the best known examples of industrial archeology in Italy. The Fabbrica della Ruota, located along the “Via della Lana” (“Wool Route”) that connects Biella to Borgosesia and owes its name to the large wheel that set the machinery in motion, still has its 19th century multilevel Manchester-type installation and its “tele-dynamic” system to transmit energy. Today, it is one of the 15 “cells” that define the Museo del Territorio del Biellese (Museum of the Biella Area territory).
