Bra

The people of Bra use to traffic meat, they would walk along the river banks and through the woods from Pocapaglia to Bra, at night, with veal legs on their backs, and pork, and beef quarters, while the people from Dazio would wait for them, on the top of the Bra hill, hidden up on the Zizzola highland, like witches and comic characters.” (Giovanni Arpino, Regina di cuoi). For Arpino, as for every citizen of Bra, the Zizzola, which towers over the city from the top of Monteguglielmo, is the symbol of Bra. The two-storey building has an octagonal floor plan and a cylindrical tower. The Zizzola came about as an “object of love”, a beautiful lookout inside a large garden which a wealthy and deeply in-love husband had built in 1840 for his wife.
