Buildings of historical importance
Porticato dell'Ala (Bra)
Category: Buildings of historical importance
The oldest part of Bra, called “della Rocca”, is rich in imposing buildings, splendid examples of Piemonte Baroque. The main ones face the market square, today, Piazza Caduti della Liberta, easily recognizable by the statue dedicated to San Giuseppe Cottolengo placed right in the center. A few steps away is the porticato (colonnade) “dell’Ala”, the scene of the picturesque Friday market, a curious passageway that begins up high, offering a striking view over the roofs of the city’s historical center. The colonnade is the connection that leads to the Chiesa della Santissima Trinita, to the house where Giuseppe Cottolengo was born, to Palazzo Guerra, to Palazzo Rosso, and to the Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli.
