Agriculture and food

Based on a solid tradition, Piedmont’s agriculture and food industry has been able to grow and innovate. Long-established companies have been able to make the right choices in transforming their traditional methods of production and sales.

For example, Abit has decided to introduce fermented milk on the market, thus reaching its Muslim customers, who are growing in number in Piedmont. Bistefani has applied a system of mass distribution and thus succeeded in introducing the Krumiro, a typical biscuit from Casale, all over the world. The butter producer Occelli has renewed its long established traditional production methods through present-day systems of quality control that guarantee and safeguard the integrity of its diary products, thus creating for itself an international image of great prestige. Ceretto, one of the main vineyards of the Langhe, has gone into the field of art as well as wine production. Its impressive new glass headquarters building has aroused interest and become a stopping off point for visitors. In Piedmont chocolate and coffee production have been improving steadily, not to mention their tastes, all this due to systems of traceability of the products in every phase of production. Coalvi, an association for safeguarding the quality of Piedmont-breed cattle, has been showing its skill in combining tradition, taste, health, and business.
The Presidi Slow food have been founded as centres for the defence of the authenticity and local production of a range of products. Biological agriculture has become a growth activity that fosters biodiversity. In Piedmont 20,000 hectares and 30,000 farm enterprises are involved in this activity. One unique outcome of this food and agricultural policy, enforced by rigid quality control, is the range of 46 DOC and DOCG wines, whose local origins are officially certified.

Mario Brunello

“Torino has a special karma when it comes to music. The audience here in Torino takes a little more time to decide compared to others. It seems like they are waiting, as if they don’t want to invade the field. This is because they treat artists like people, not like celebrities. They make you feel important because of what you have to say with finesse. This is a very courteous way to make you feel at home.”

Piero Chiambretti

"The free time I have, I spend in Torino. It’s the place where I grew as a human and professionally. My years of study and cabaret, those of fleeing and returning a winner, those of my haunts. Torino is my life."

Adrien Brody

“While shooting Dario Argento’s Giallo, I bought a used bicycle at Balon and would go out for a ride along the Po….Gorgeous…Not to mention Piemonte’s cuisine which is smashing….”
