Touring - Piemonte Feel

Mountain

Adrenalin-filled descents on trails or on new snow, water sports in sail boats or canoes, air sports hanging from a cord or a parachute – these are Piemonte’s mountains. Fun is guaranteed for sports lovers and great adventure for nature lovers, accompanied by the allure of the majestic summits of the alpine arc. At the end of an excitement-filled day, the relaxed pleasure of truly pampering oneself.

There is no better place to unwind and have fun than in the mountains of Piedmont. In the snow season the Western curve of the Alps is transformed into what has been dubbed the “White Galaxy”, an immense system of ski stations, offering skiers and snowboarders more than a thousand kilometres of runs, plus state of the art hospitality facilities.

Cross country skiers can plan excursions from valley to valley, thanks to the many trails creating links between them: one long interconnected system that will take you from the slopes of the Marittime Alps all the way to the slopes of the Lepontine Alps in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola. In summer the uniform white mantle gives way to a coat of many colours, formed by a myriad of mountain plants filling the air with the scents and smells of their flowers and fruit, and attracting insects, birds and animals of all species.
Each valley is threaded with walking and climbing trails, at every level of difficulty. It is also possible to trek the entire length of the Alps in Piedmont: approximately 1,000 kilometres of paths and mule tracks, with fully equipped mountain refuges at the end of each stage, starting at Monviso and ending in the Val Formazza.. The Alps provide a precious record of the culture of their inhabitants and relics of historical events and eras: like the massive Fort of Fenestrelle, extending along a ridge between Chisone and Susa valleys. Tourists can walk along the 3 kilometres of fortifications, which have earned the fortress the nickname of “Great Wall of China”.

Places

Forte di Fenestrelle

The largest fortified structure in Europe and the longest wall-structure in the world after the Great Wall of China: a 635-meter inclination, 3 km long, 1,300,000 square meters large, 4,000 steps in the Scala Coperta (Covered Staircase), 2,500 steps in the Scala Reale (Royal Staircase), 5 drawbridges, and 183 lights to illuminate the interior.

Castello di Costigliole d’Asti

Surrounded by a large park, the castle houses an international cooking school and the annual “asta del Barbera” (“Barbera auction”) which has become a not-to-miss event for fans of quality wine.

Filatoio Rosso di Caraglio

The Filatoio (Spinning Mill), built between 1676 and 1678, is an extraordinary example of 17th century Piemonte “industrial architecture”. Today, completely restored, it houses the Museo Regionale della Seta (Regional Silk Museum), as well as contemporary art shows.

Riccardo Scamarcio

"I confess. I have committed the sin of gluttony in Piemonte. Dishes made with Alba truffles are irresistible and are a “must” during my stays in Piemonte."

Luciana Littizzetto

"I like living in Toino. It has a singular beat. The accent is an important source of inspiration: it’s slow, deliberate, not suited for funny moments, but if it’s natural and not affected, it works and makes you laugh."

Mario Brunello

“Torino has a special karma when it comes to music. The audience here in Torino takes a little more time to decide compared to others. It seems like they are waiting, as if they don’t want to invade the field. This is because they treat artists like people, not like celebrities. They make you feel important because of what you have to say with finesse. This is a very courteous way to make you feel at home.”
