Bouldering
Climbing in total freedom, without precautions and with shoes as your only aid. This is bouldering, an activity related to athletic climbing and for many the essence of climbing. Agility, strength and endurance typify this discipline which is practiced outdoors and respects nature. It is performed without the aid of traditional safety equipment because it deals with crossing stretches of rocks a short distance from the ground. This is exactly why the ideal terrain is blocks of rocks or masses of isolated rocks.
Piemonte offers many routes that are suitable to fans of this sport as well as to those who wish to approach it for the first time like the Massi di Parone in Valsesia and the Parco dei Sassi in the Mottarone area. Above all however, for those who have less expertise, it is advisable to bring along a crashpad. This is a small mat made of foam rubber to place at the boulder’s base at a landing point which helps cushion the more traumatic effects of an eventual fall. Bouldering, therefore, is an authentic concentrate of climbing; precise movements are alternated by tosses and blocks; a test of one’s own capacity: concentration, motor intelligence as well as explosive strength and coordination.
