Horseback riding
A sense of balance and coordination, in a word, poise – this is what people need to learn in the sport of horseback riding, which is being practiced more and more in Piedmont thanks to the spread of the country inns or agriturismi. Piedmont offers peaceful horseback rides among its selection of fresh-air activities. Gran Paradiso Park, the “Holy Mountain” of Crea, Candia Lake, and La Mandria Park are just some of the places with splendid itineraries that people can ride through “in the saddle.” There is a modern centre, Rolanda Quarter Horses, in Bairo in the Canavese valley that offers spirited lessons in western horseback riding. Another can be found in Valmadonna (Alessandria Province). In addition, Piedmont has Pinerolo, the “City of Equestrianism,” which is famous for its Equestrian School. Federico Caprilli, the school’s renowned instructor, was the creator of modern equestrianism. He is also famous for having made the highest jump (2.08 meters) riding the horse Melapo at the first equestrian contest in Turin in 1902.
