SPORT - Piemonte Feel

Winter Sports

Sweep down the mountain off piste in fresh powder, while a fiery sunset colours the slopes red; then ski on after dark under the floodlights of the night skiing session. Every year thousands of tourists flock to Piedmont’s 53 ski resorts, to unwind and relax, or burn energy skiing or snowboarding. And the White Galaxy offers them so much more than sport: the opportunity to get to know the valleys of the western alps, with their unique traditions, wonderful food and wine, and genuine products and handicrafts. Apart from skiing, you can take a ride on a dog-sled, drawn by a team of huskies, or go climbing on a frozen waterfall in Valsesia, or “surf” down the slopes as you try your hand at snowboarding.
If you want to escape the crowded ski runs of the Valsesia and Susa Valley resorts a heliskiing excursion will lift you up to the silence of the highest slopes and glaciers. While if you’d like to follow the tracks of the wild ibex goats, or catch a glimpse of a white hare flashing across the snow, just pull on a pair of boots and snow shoes and take to the mountain trails.

Places

Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens

Villa Taranto and its gardens, which look out over Lago Maggiore, have a vast botanical trove that includes about 1,000 plants, which until today had never been cultivated in Italy, and about 20,000 varieties and species of particular botanical importance.

Villa Scott

The little manor house, one of the most important examples of Torino Liberty architecture, is linked to the name of Dario Argento who set his film, “Profondo Rosso” (“Deep Red”) here – perhaps his most emotional film and the one with the strongest visual effects.

Palaisozaki

It is the new Torino Olympic Palasport (Sports Arena) designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki for the Winter Olympics in Torino 2006. A multi-functional space, versatile and flexible which, thanks to the mobility of its platform, can turn from an ice rink into a concert, show, or convention venue.

Monica Bellucci

Monica Bellucci

"I love this city to death, architecturally beautiful, the people are friendly without being invasive, and the food is stupendous."

Joanne Harris

"The Langhe countryside is breathtakingly beautiful - it’s enough on its own, but what has truly struck me is the sense of community and the respect and love that grape-growers have for the land and for the wine they create."

Antonello Venditti

“Torino is a fist of good earth raised to the sky…it’s my second home. I found a special lady here who knows how to reward me with affection. This is why I will never forget the concert I gave at Palasport in 1980”.
